Chambers County, Alabama, is served by a court system that spans multiple levels of jurisdiction — from local municipal courts to the Circuit Court of the 5th Judicial Circuit. These courts generate records that document everything from traffic violations and misdemeanor charges to felony prosecutions, civil disputes, estate proceedings, and family law matters. Whether you are conducting a background inquiry, researching a legal dispute, tracking a case outcome, or managing an estate, the records you need are maintained by specific offices with defined access procedures.
Public records in Alabama carry a presumption of openness, though specific categories of court documents remain restricted. Understanding where each type of record is held and how to request it can save significant time. In Alabama, court records can be located through clerk’s offices, courthouse public access terminals, and official online tools. AlabamaCourts.us can help users identify publicly available court case information across the state’s judicial system.
How to Look Up a Court Case in Chambers County?
The Circuit Clerk’s Office is the primary repository for court records in Chambers County. Circuit Clerk Lisa M. Burdette oversees records across ten divisions, including Civil, Criminal, Domestic, Child Support, Traffic, Juvenile, and Warrants. All records are electronically imaged, making them more readily accessible to both court staff and the public.
Court records can be accessed through three main channels:
- Online via the Alabama courts portal — Most trial court information is available through alacourt.gov using the “Just One Look” on-demand service. The AlacourtAccess.com platform provides access to all state trial court records, including civil, domestic, criminal, and traffic cases. Fees apply: name searches and case number searches are $9.99 each; document images cost $5.00 for the first 20 pages and $0.50 per page thereafter.
- In person at the courthouse — Requestors may visit the Circuit Clerk’s Office in person and provide identifying information such as party names, case number, or filing date to locate records.
- By mail — Written requests may be submitted to the clerk’s office with sufficient identifying information and any applicable fees.

Are Court Records Public in Chambers County?
Under Section 36-12-40 of the Alabama Code, members of the public have the right to inspect and obtain copies of public records created by government entities, including Chambers County’s courts. This access right is reinforced by Rule 4 of the Alabama Rules of Judicial Administration, which governs how court clerks preserve and make records accessible.
However, the right of access is not unlimited. The following categories of records are restricted or confidential:
- Juvenile records involving delinquency, abuse, neglect, or dependency proceedings are sealed to protect minors.
- Adoption files are confidential and require a court order for access.
- Expunged criminal records are removed from public view by court order.
- Records sealed by a judge, including certain domestic violence proceedings, are inaccessible without legal authorization.
- Mental health commitment records are confidential by statute.
- Any document forbidden from public view under state, federal, or common law is automatically exempt.
For restricted records, individuals must present a court order or demonstrate legal authorization before a clerk may provide access. Non-restricted documents — including most civil case filings, criminal judgments, probate filings, and recorded land instruments — are open for public inspection upon request.
